
Andrei Tsoy
Born 9 April 1971 in Murmansk, Russia, Andrei Tsoy is the son of a Korean father and Ukrainian mother. From 1986 to 1990 he attended the Dnepropetrovsk Art School, then enrolled at the Ukrainian National Academy of Fine Arts, completing his degree in 1997. In 1993 he held his first solo exhibition at the Tychyna Museum.
While completing his BFA, Tsoy spent a year in Spain (1993–1994) at the University of Granada, studying under Professor Storozhenko at an annual workshop for emerging artists from European institutions.
In Spain, Tsoy was deeply influenced by the artistic movements of the second half of the twentieth century, making frequent visits to galleries and studying modern art from Dalí to Picasso.
By 1995, he was already a member of the Artists' Union of Ukraine.
